This artwork started with a brass door bell found in a dusty suitcase I discovered in an old house. That same day I discovered some beautiful timber window frames that were about to be bulldozed at the dump, so I yelled to the driver to STOP and he helped me haul out my ‘new’ old treasures. I worked within the dimensions of one timber frame and began to research the history of the doorbell and sketch the object, its various parts and how they worked. I also recorded the interior of the house in which the bell was found. This painting has many layers, some which are no longer visible as new diagrams and drawings were added. The final piece has the inner workings of the doorbell built into the frame so that the ringer can be turned, allowing the viewer to make further connections with the drawings embedded within the work.
