Travel Sketchbook 2008
While travelling through Europe with my husband (and occasionally heading off the beaten track) I realised I wasn’t drawing enough. So I decided to leave the camera in his hands and started recording our journey in a sketchbook I found in a German bookstore. Each day I carried with me a charcoal pencil and a small compact water colour kit that belonged to my Mother, that she had nicknamed toverdoosje-magicbox. I filled the entire book over 10 weeks and it is now far more precious to me then the few photos I did manage to capture. My favourite spot was in the back alleys of the old city of Dubrovnik where, in our haste to catch a ferry, I had limited time to draw. This is how the ‘2 minute rooftops’ came about – the sketch in the top right hand side of this image.
