While wandering around Turnbull Bay on Dunedin’s Peninsula, I discovered 2 bones, one skull and one fine feather bone which seemed to belong to the same bird – the Parekareka (spotted shag). I sketched the bones, mapped the area where I found them and upon returning to studio came up with this painting. The materials are from an old cupboard door which I pulled apart and rearranged to create my canvas.
